Brain Dead Child Gives Life to Three

TEHRAN The liver, kidneys and heart of an 11-year-old girl were donated and transplanted to three other people, saving their lives.

According to the reports released on Monday, Maryam Ranjbar, who was then brain dead, was taken to the Shariati Hospital in Tehran from the Farahan District in Arak, Central Province by a helicopter.

Maryam's heart was transplanted to a young woman in Shariati Hospital. Her kidneys were sent to Sina Hospital and her liver to Imam Khomeini Hospital for transplantation.

According to Maryam's father, she received the injury that caused her brain death when she fell down a flight of stairs eight days ago.

She was then hospitalized in Vali Asr Hospital in Arak, until she was pronounced to be brain dead. Then her name was placed on the list of organ donors.

The father of the girl said in an interview that although he was very sad about his daughter's death, he was pleased that his daughter was able to save the lives of three other people in urgent need of transplantation, adding that because of this, he does not feel that he has lost his beloved child.
